About Critical Care

“We’re not heroes or angels. We are ordinary people who were trying to do our job.”

Critical Care was developed between 2021 and 2023 in close collaboration with nurses across the UK, it gives voice to their untold stories, not only as medical professionals, but as women, mothers, carers, and teammates navigating extraordinary circumstances.

Based on first-hand testimony gathered during a PhD research project, this play honours the emotional truth of those who bore the brunt of the pandemic — and whose stories remain largely unheard in the public conversation.
